Sheriff YC 2 - Pike Rovers 2 (5-4 after Penalties)

A tense penalty shootout was required to settle the FAI Junior Cup Quarter Final between 10 man Sheriff YC and Pike Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

Pike took the lead in controversial circumstances after Paddy O’Malley’s free-kick was saved by the Sheriff YC goalkeeper but it was adjudged to have crossed the line. PatoOglesby dismissal for a rash challenge would heap more pressure on the home team but they would get an opportunity to level the scores after being awarded a penalty which John Lester would eventually miss. He would make up for that miss 30 seconds later, flicking on at the near post from a long throw. The teams would go in level at halftime.

The second half kicked off with Pike Rovers looking to take full advantage of their numerical advantage. However, against the run of play, the home side would take the lead through Leon Hayes’ absolute screamer, the winger cutting onto his left foot and curling into the top corner. The Rovers would go on the offensive and would have Paddy O’Malley to thank once more after he converted Jonathan Grant's knockback.

The game finished 2-2 after 90 minutes and headed to penalties after both sides could not be separated during extra time. A tense and nervy penalty shoot-out would ensue with 10- man Sheriff YC emerging 5-4 winners and moving on to the 7th round.

East Wall Bessborough vs. Hardwicke FC

East Wall Bessborough and Hardwicke FC clashed at Clontarf Road All Weather with East Wall winning by three goals to one. The win East Wall Bessborough’s 2nd win in 3 games moved them up to 4th place while Hardwicke remains in 8th position after losing 3 games on the spin.

EWB took the lead through a Derek Burnett effort but Brandon Daly leveled for the away side. Peter Flood restored the lead for East Wall Bessborough and a Jake Hanney effort wrapped it up to give East Wall a 3-1 win.

Ringsend Rovers 3 - Leixlip United 2

Ringsend started strongly and took the lead in the first 10 minutes through a header from Bob Alwright. They would double their lead 10 minutes later through a penalty by Graham Hannigan. However, the two-goal lead would be cut in half after a quick counter by the away side. The home team would hold on to their lead at half time despite being reduced to 10 men.

The second half began with the home side absorbing a lot of pressure and doing their best to kill off the tie. However, with 10 minutes left on the clock, Leixlip would level the scores and continue to mount pressure on the Rovers backline who put on a superb display to keep the scores level.

The away side would receive the shock of their lives when with 2 minutes left on the clock Ross Kemple would pressure their left back into making a mistake which led to Anthony Flood rounding the keeper and netting the winner.

East Wall Rovers 4 - Park Celtic 2

An entertaining game saw six goals scored as both teams flew straight out of the blocks. East Wall took the lead when a shot from Iano was parried into the part of Alex for a simple tap-in. After creating a few more half chances, they would double their lead on the half-hour mark through Ingo who expertly rolled his man before curling a beautiful shot into the bottom corner, his first goal for his new club. The intensity of the game was on full display and with tackles flying, East wall was forced into two first-half substitutions.

Park Celtic would pull one back after a long free kick was flicked on to their center forward and he gave the East wall goalie no chance with a smart finish. This gave the away side a lift and it took a superb save from Ryan in the East Wall goal to keep their lead intact. That save would give the home side a lift and they would restore their two-goal lead after an Ingo shot somehow eluded the Park Celtic goalie. A beautiful delivery from the right would be dispatched by Savo to extend their lead to three goals.

Park Celtic would pull one back in injury time but it would be too late, East Wall Rovers winning 4-2 on the night.
