Backstage Tours: 1-31 January 2019
Have you ever wondered what it’s like backstage at the theatre? How does everything work? Where do they store sets, costumes, etc.? If you’ve always wanted a chance to see what’s happening backstage, then be sure to check out the Backstage Tours as the Abbey Theatre!
You’ll have a chance to take a tour behind-the-scenes to see how a theatre works. The tour includes getting a close up look at sets and designs for current productions, viewing the theatre’s extensive portrait collection, learning how a national theatre works and more! The tour will keep you captivated through four levels and does involve some stairs. If mobility is an issue, then be sure to let them know when booking—they will try to accommodate those with reduce mobility.
The tour will take you about 70-90 minutes as you start from the foyer. Tours are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you can’t get away from your daily schedule during the week, then check out the Saturday tour.

The Ridleys: 15-26 January 2019
Looking for a thrill involving dark, complex minds and stories? Then be sure to check out these back-to-back monologues of Donny Stixx and Andrea, two young people with tragic tales.
The monologues are usually shown on separate nights, but now you can enjoy these dark tales one after the other on the same night! These 75-minute plays are directed by Karl Shiels.
First, you’ll enjoy the story with Donny Stixx. Stixx is a troubled, lonely teen whose mother withheld her love and ultimately took her own life. As a way to fit in and escape his troubled life, Donny performs magic tricks. The teen is finally driven to violent consequences by his own self-importance and ambition.
The story of Andrea has a similar dark, tragic theme; older men prey on the girl’s seeming vulnerability, not knowing Andrea will soon turn the tables and exploit them. Andrea ultimately is caught in a well of self-delusion with a tragic ending.
The cast includes Katie Honan (as Andrea) and Rex Ryan (as Donny).
Age note: this production is appropriate for people 16 years of age and up.

Thomas Moore Reimagined: 1 February 2019
If you enjoy the poetry and lyrics of Thomas Moore, then step out for a wonderful night with the Moorings. The group’s music stays true to the words of Thomas Moore, while putting new tunes to the Moore’s traditional lines.
Interspersed between Moore’s “reimagined” tunes, you’ll enjoy music with a taste of Salsa, Jazz, and Eastern European influences, all reflecting a modern, international Ireland.
Singers featured include Simon Morgan, Lisa Lambe, Jack O’Rourke, Drazen Derek, Karl Nesbit, Martin Tourish, Cormac De Barra and Myles Drenna.

The 24 Hour Plays Dublin: 3 February 2019
Back, for one night only, The 24 Hours Plays Dublin! If you’ve missed past performances, now’s your chance to see these unique plays and help the Dublin Youth Theatre at the same time.
A creative team of six playwrights, six directors and over 25 actors will write, rehearse and perform six plays within 24 hours. Top talent includes famous directors, stars of stage and screen, along with an outstanding production team to bring you a fantastic night of entertainment.
